John Deere provides application-specific Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved field-installed propane conversion kits for specific John Deere Commercial Walk-Behind Mowers, QuikTrak Mowers, and ZTrak Mowers. The conversion kits include all components required to convert the engines to operate on propane fuel. Single-tank or dual-tank brackets (depending on the vehicle) are provided for securely holding the propane tank(s) to the vehicle.
Propane tanks are not included.
An optional altitude kit is required when operating at altitudes above 2000 ft (610 m). The operator’s manual with the propane conversion kit provides further details. Parts must be ordered separately through John Deere Parts.
Propane facts:
Propane is flammable and commonly used as a fuel.
The molecular formula of propane is C3H8, and it is in the family of liquefied petroleum gases (LP gases). The other LP gases include butane, propylene, butadiene, butylene, isobutylene, and mixtures thereof.
Propane is commonly available and has proven to be a dependable, safe, economical, and clean-burning fuel. It can be used as household fuel, industrial fuel, and fuel for internal combustion engines. Propane has been used as a fuel since 1910.
At atmospheric pressure, propane boils at -44°F (-42.2°C), meaning it typically exists as a vapor. However, when contained under pressure, such as in a propane cylinder, it can exist as a liquid.
Propane is naturally odorless, but includes an additive odorant, usually mercaptan, which gives it a distinct odor.
Vapor propane is heavier than air, meaning it will settle in low areas such as along the ground or in drains.
Advantages of John Deere propane conversion kits include:
Reduced fuel costs, up to 30 percent depending on fuel prices

Brake & Go starting system
Parking brake pedal (Z900R Series)
Parking brake lever (Z900 E and M Series)
The Brake & Go starting system is a John Deere exclusive. This feature makes the starting process on all ZTrak™ mowers easier, while also making it possible to remove two interlock switches from the machine.
The Brake & Go starting procedure helps a novice operator look and feel like a professional. To start the machine, the parking brake must be engaged. It does not matter whether the power take-off (PTO) switch is on or off, nor does it matter if the control levers are pulled in or in the out position.
As long as the parking brake is engaged, the machine will start. When the parking brake is applied, the control levers cannot be moved to the forward or reverse positions.
Adjustable levers
Adjustable levers
The motion control levers have two height positions and can also be adjusted forward or rearward within the slotted holes. The levers should be adjusted so the operator can achieve a full range of control operation comfortably.

An easy-to-use cutting-height lift system allows the operator to adjust the mower deck height with no tools and minimal effort. The easy-to-grip knob allows operators to dial in the desired height of cut (HOC).
Cutting height can be adjusted from approximately 1 in. to 5.5 in. (2.5 cm to 14 cm). Each increment on the knob adjusts the HOC approximately 0.25 in. (0.64 cm). The deck can also be raised and locked in a transport position to provide maximum ground clearance when moving the machine from one area to another.
The transport lock function allows the deck to be returned to the previous HOC after being in the transport position:
Use the foot-lift pedal to lift the deck and engage the transport lock.
Rotate the knob to adjust from 1 in. to 5.5 in. (2.5 cm to 14 cm) in 0.25-in. (0.64 cm) increments.
This design increases productivity by allowing operators to change the cutting height without having to leave the seat.

7 Month review of the 930r
5/5
I bought the Z930R to mow 2.5 acres, a mix of landscaped yard and native grass fields. Terrain is roughly flat, with a few minor grades. I went with Tweels, upgraded seat, mulch on demand, and a 54” deck so I could fit through my existing gates. The mower is EXTREMELY sturdy. My first zero-turn, and after getting oriented and practicing tight turns without tearing up the grass I don’t know how I lived without it.
Tweels and solid front casters means I never air up and no more flats from the non-landscaped areas of my place. Reviews suggested Tweels would be a harsher ride. I upgraded from a Deere D130, and the upgraded seat is very comfortable comparatively, so for me the ride is excellent.
Operator controls are laid out well and intuitive. Seat is weight adjustable for vertical suspension, and horizontal suspension can be locked out if you don’t like it. I don’t lock it out – it’s too good. Lumbar support and arm rests are both adjustable. I like the foot operated emergency brake on this model, as well as the hydraulic mower deck lift.
I have not done any initial maintenance on the mower, so I can’t speak to the ease of doing it. The design appears to offer excellent access to the service components when the time comes.
Finally, how does it mow? My dealer (Mustang Equipment in Marble Falls, Texas) did an excellent job on the initial setup as deck is leveled correctly and it shows in the finished cut. Blade tip speed is much faster than D130, so mowing at much higher speeds does not degrade the cut. Mulch on demand works extremely well, and I find I use that feature more than I thought I would.
Hard to lay out dislikes, but here are the minor ones for me: For this price point, a couple of forward facing work lights in the base package would be nice. The fuel filler neck points nearly straight up, and it’s up high, so flipping a VP Fuels gas can up in position is some work.
Great mower. I'd buy it again.

5/5
The z930r mower is the best mower on the market for commercial use this mower lays down some awesome stripes and sucks up leaves like its nothing this mower is the best mower on the market and we have been in business for over 15 years with over 200 properties we bag all of our yards and it sucks up anything that comes in its way. We love the Z930r we bought two of them! This mower is better than scags, exmarks, ventracs, any mower on the market we have tried them all none can compare to the John Deere z930r. The amount of comfort this mower provides is amazing with the comfort tech seat. I strongly recommend the product! We use the 54 inch deck and it is perfect for our needs John Deere we love your products!

Excellent Mower
5/5
Purchased this mower last summer with the 54" MOD deck and the Twheels. This machine is very robust and will absolutely fly and cut at the same time. My only complaint is the blade RPM's are so fast that when in a dusty area it will cover you. I'm thinking this is just zero turns in general though. I love the 7 Iron deck and how it is one solid stamped piece of steel. This is a better design than the welded decks you see on other competitors mowers. The welds can serve as a weak point if the weld penetration is not consistent. That is ultimately what lead me into purchasing this mower over another brands. It was bar far not the most affordable but quality is not free. Overall I would buy this again in a heartbeat.

My first zero turn
5/5
I don't use my 950R in a commercial mowing business, I own a farm and spend 5 to 6 hours weekly mowing yards, grass lanes, hills, ditches etc. I had been using a JD425 riding mower since 1991 but decided I needed something different because it was causing hip pain. The sitting position of a zero turn machine completely solved my problem. I can now ride and mow with my feet and knees close together and have no hip pain even after spending several hours of continuous operation on this mower. Now for the machine...It works very well. I have a 60" deck. The 25.5HP engine easily cuts 8"-10" high fescue and pasture grass to a height of 3" without bogging down. My yard is gently rolling and looks like a golf course. I have about 50 hours on the machine to date and look forward to mowing grass. I even told my wife that when I get too old to walk around the farm I want a ZTRAK without a mower deck to use as an outdoor, gas powered wheel chair! I wish the mower was a little quieter and but other than that I would recommend it to anyone.
