Yanmar TNV Series engine offers these features:
- Economical for good cooling and long life
- Isolated engine provides reduced vibration and noise for the operator; indirect fuel injection uses a precombustion chamber to give the engine a smooth and quiet operation; aluminum-alloy piston with built-in steel struts are lightweight to reduce connection rod bearing loads and provide good heat transfer characteristics
- Design permits tighter tolerances and neutralizes expansion of the piston, thereby reducing blow-by gas and less noise from the piston slap
- Higher top rings on the piston and a thinner head gasket greatly reduces the volume of unburned waste gases and increases combustion efficiency
- Timing-gear teeth have a designed roll-off profile giving almost no clash, no noise, and no backlash
- High-torque reserve provides plenty of power under heavy load, yet retains excellent fuel economy
- Easy access to engine check and fill points on the right-hand side of the tractor by removing the side panels
- Fuel filter with replaceable element
- Full-pressure lubrication system provides filtered oil under pressure to all vital engine parts
- Glow plugs provide quick starts in temperatures down to -18°C (0°F) (Optional engine coolant heater attachment will assist starting under more extreme conditions.)
- Auto-bleed fuel system means there is no special bleeding required if the tractor runs out of fuel; this system will self-prime the injection pump, lines, and injectors, providing fast fuel recovery
- Key start and shut off eliminates fuel shut-off knob
- Electric solenoid shuts fuel supply off immediately when key is turned off
- See-through coolant recovery tank permits operator to check coolant level without removing radiator cap
- Dry-type air cleaner with safety element keeps dirt and other contaminants out of the engine
- Safety element (second filter) will protect engine if primary filter would develop a leak
- Protects engine when servicing primary filter
- Air filter restriction indicator is standard equipment on the 2025R Tractor
- Sealed-radiator compartment keeps trash and debris on outside of hood
- Horizontal exhaust discharges fumes away from the operator station, reducing noise and improving operator visibility and comfort

Easy-to-use hydrostatic transmission (HST) increases efficiency
The 2R Series are equipped with a two-range hydrostatic transmission (HST) incorporated in a die-cast aluminum transmission case. Fluid under pressure transmits engine power to the drive wheels via a closed-loop pump and motor arrangement. Infinite ground speeds allow the operator to match the speed of the tractor to the job.
- No clutching for fast and easy direction changes
- Twin Touch™ foot pedals for quick and easy forward/reverse operation
- Transmission oil cooler cools transmission oil for longer transmission life
Safety features of the HST include:
- The tractor will only start with the range lever in neutral
- If the range lever is in gear when the key is turned to the start position, the instrument panel instructs the operator to shift to neutral
- The engine will shut off if the operator leaves the seat and the forward/reverse pedals are depressed
Twin Touch foot controls
Two-range transmission
Two-speed transmission
Transmission has two speeds - hi and lo range.
- The range lever is located next to the seat, conveniently within reach of the operator
- All tasks can be performed using two ranges on the 2025R which means less shifting throughout the day
Durability features include:
- Large forged one-piece trunnion shaft with larger support bearings that reduce vibration and noise
- Innovative transaxle combines an HST, gear reduction axle, and clutch
- Pressure side filtration allows the use of a fine-mesh filter
- One pump to supply charge pressure and implement A flow divider splits the flow to various circuits throughout the tractor.
- The transaxle has an oil cooler which provides improved hydraulic cooling performance

2015r with loader, backhoe, mid mower and pallet forks
Oil leak at rear of tractor. Loader leaks down quickly! From a height of 41" the bucket is on the the ground in 6 minutes. Raising the 3 point lever causes engine to labor. Will also cause independent mid hydraulics to raise by itself. Loader bucket is difficult to put on. Pallet forks fits perfectly as does my son's bucket from his 1025r Tractor was delivered with nuts and bolts loose and some pins missing. It you contact service is always 2 to 3 weeks before we can work on it. Yet they delivered it in that condition.

lOVE MY 2025R
I PURCHASED THE 2025R ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO AND HAVE ABOUT 45 HOURS ON IT NOW. IT HAS BEEN ABSOLUTELY THE BEST SO FAR. I USE IT FOR BUSHHOGGING, GRASS CUTTING, MOVING DIRT, AND MANY OTHER LITTLE THINGS AROUND MY PROPERTY. I HAVE ABOUT 6 ACRES AND BUSH HOG ABOUT 4 ACRES AND THEN USE THE MID MOUNT MOWER FOR THE OTHER 2. IT GETS THE JOB DONE. I DON'T REGRET THIS PURCHASE AT ALL.

Huge tractor in a small package
I have a 2014 2025r with 658 hard hours on a 62 acre Christmas tree farm. I run a 5' brush hog, 5' tiller and a 64" rear snowblower. It handles them all awesome with no problems. I have worked the snot out of this tractor and it only amazes me. The tiller and bucket combination has turned it into a little bulldozer. I have cleared a lot of brush and trees with the brush hog on back and forks on the front. I have a hard time believing the people who rated this low knew what they were doing. I do wish that manufactures including john deere would make a skid plate to protect the front drive shaft at the output end to keep tall weeds from wrapping around and snapping it. I built my own.

I have 2025 from 2014. I have been very happy with it.
I use have 350 hours on a 2025 from 2014. Mow, bushhog, load and grade gravel road. It has served me well. I keep in garage and have no issues with rust. Still looks great. If I got a new one I would get a bigger one I think. You can never have too much tractor.

so far so good
doing various jobs around my 3 acres, i find this 2025 a nice size tractor. i have the loader and the oh so convenient backhoe attached fulltime. i find myself using the backhoe more. yes, you can stall it if you try grabbing more than its meant for. but just know the limitations of this size tractor and you can flogg it all day long and get a lot done without breaking a sweat. i just dont want a huge tractor. been there done that. if i trade in a few years i most likely will stay with J D. and move up to 2032 for that little extra asskick. otherwise it will be the same. such a good product. i used to be a design engineer for Cat and we always had to watch out for J D outdoing us for durability. J D is a good value for the money.

My First Compact Tractor
I researched this purchase for probably 2 years. My biggest struggle was is 2025R worth the extra cost over a 1025R. I must say that yes it was the increased ability is well worth the additional cost. I loaded the tractor up with options. 3rd function valve was the same as purchasing a diverter and is more capable option and a much cleaner installation. The Load N Go is great for working on the deck.

Love It
We are new to the Tractor world. After lots of research and questions we went with the 2025R. Thank you Tractor Tim for all your JD demos and videos. I can see so far this may be one of the best investment my wife and I have made in awhile.

Does everything I put it through when it's not at dealership for repairs
Traded our 2012. 23hp sub compact tractor on a 2020 2025R this February. Put 24hrs on it managing 3acres and a large garden. Noticed oil under tractor after every mowing. Dealer has had 2 times now attempting to fix the mid pto seal. Each repair keeps leaking. The second time they have had over 4weeks trying to repair and and now we are being told John Deere is replacing the transmission. Very frustrating considering only 24hrs on the machine. I was raised on a farm with John Deere and work as a Heavy Equipment Operator and still love John Deere. Just hope they get it figured out. Hats off to dealer as they have been on top of things even going as far as making sure we have a mower when needed. Guess it's my turn to draw the short straw.

second lawn tractor to blow head gasket
I have been a loyal JD customer for the past 32 years. But, as of late, I am getting very frustrated with the product. My 2025R just blew a head gasket! It is 2 years old with 400 hrs. This is the second machine that I have owned that has blown a head gasket. No....I did not overheat the engine. My 1026R that I traded May 2018 also blew a head gasket with minimal hours on the engine. I have always been a JD fan but this is getting frustrating and very suspect. What is going on with the Yanmar Diesel that they are blowing head gaskets. I have antifreeze leaking out of the head gasket and dripping down the side of the block. Be on the look-out for this telltale sign of a blown head gasket. My dealer says this is unusual and I must be unlucky. What the heck John Deere? I am now dead in the water for 7-10 days without a machine and a ton of projects and grass cutting that needs to get done. I need a reliable product! Sincerely, loyal JD customer but fading fast.

2025R
I ordered a 2025R with backhoe and bucket and a 54 inch mower deck. I have had the backhoe rebuilt after a hour of use do to excessive leak down. I would disconnect it and it would just bleed off to the ground making it hard to reconnect even if I tried right after I took it off. The backhoe has no power and will not dig through the smallest roots. Tractor did not have the power to back up a slight incline with a full bucket of topsoil just wouldn't move. The drive on and off mower did not work as advertised when the John Deere mechanic was showing me how to use it the mower caught the bucket stand and bent a number of brackets up front. The neutral safety switch has no light and is hard to get to engage half the time the tractor is killed when you get off when you think you have it engaged.

tough and resilient
Bought this tractor 3 years ago to manage farming one acre and mowing several acres of rough field. I've beat the heck out of it with no problems and it continues to perform well. It has excellent 4WD and is capable of most small tractor duties. The front loader has been a life saver in preparing our dirt road annually.

fantastic little machine
Just bought a 2025r this year with loader and backhoe. I own a landscape construction company and was looking for a smaller scale machine to get into tight areas that all my other skid steers and excavators cannot get into. I was very doubtful at the beginning that this machine could perform to the needs that myself and my guys were looking for... but let me tell you i was very wrong. This machine has already become an essential piece of the crew. Even though it is very small compared to my other equipment , it can definitely hold its own. Plenty of power and super user friendly. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone. From a business standpoint , a happy crew is a productive crew and this machine alone has definitely ramped up production by itself. well worth every dollar invested.

Great Tractor
I use this for Grinding Stumps, and other general tractor work. Traded in my 1025R for this one. It is a very great up-grade. Heavier and sturdier, which is what I needed.

2014 2025R
Tractor gets used by everyone in the family. To give you an Idea of to what extent let me just list the attachments we have. Mid mower with mulch kit ( wouldn't mow with out the mulch kit again, such a better cut. ) front loader, tiller, flail mower, bushhog mower, 2 bottom plow, potato plow, 6' disc, dry spreader, reese hitch for 3pt, back hoe, and quick hitch. So you can see why its so important that you can have multiple attachments on the tractor and operate them individually. The ease of changing attachments is KEY. I have installed and removed every single attachment I have in less than 30 min. just to win a bet with someone that didnt buy a DEERE. With 25 acres to tend you shuffle alot of equipment off and on in a day. Love the tractor.

Tractor is close to my 30 year old John Deere 855
I like the 2025R for the most part and in the market for a new John Deere tractor. Mostly for my experience with my John Deere 855 which will be 30 years old this year. My 855 has been extremely dependable and I have only needed to replace the battery and other small maintenance items such as oil and filter changes. With this legacy, I'll purchase another John Deere. I've also looked at the modem 2032R and find it better suited for me. Although the 2032R has roughly 600 more pounds in weight, it also has 40 percent more in rear linkage capacity and front end loader capacity. Turning radius between the 855, 2025R and 2032R is only 6 inches difference. Tire sizes are within proximity to each other. Although the 2025R is a great machine and will suit most I have to pick the 2032R because, unlike the 2025R,it does not have a Limited category hitch which may limit lift height and linkage width. All in all, it's a John Deere and both great tractors.

Mean little tractor
I was raised on a Texas Cotton farm and ran BIG Deere stuff (200-300HP tractors)all my youth years. Grew up moved to town only to find I really missed the country. Bought a small piece of land (30 acres)and needed a small tractor to work it. Purchased a 2025r with a front end loader, 48" Brush bull shredder and box blade. This little tractor is a beast! I dug a 20x40' pit 6' deep in near solid rock with the front end loader and teeth down on the box blade. I would break up the rock with a hand jack hammer into car hood or so size pieces and haul em out. I was VERY surprised how much power this tractor has and how much you can push in 4 wheel drive. The 48" brush bull with swinging hammer blades will mow ANYTHING smaller than 1.5" in diameter, Our place WAS covered in heavy thick central Texas Brush and Acasia bushes. This setup will mow em down flat in one slow pass. Prickly pear cactus is no problem either. I purchased a Frontier brand 54" rock bucket later that allows you to grub Cactus and move softball and bigger size rock with ease while letting the dirt fall through the "teeth". I just bought a 62D belly mower but have not used it yet as it id Jan 2nd as I type this review. I would highly recommend this tractor. I would say to any owner to put some good tire sealant in the tires as they will be flat if you run them in Mesquite or Cactus much. The tires are sorta thin IMO. Having said that I beat on mine pretty hard in sharp rock under heavy loads and haven tore a tire up yet...

A must have for small acres
I’ve owned my 2025r since 2/14/20 and now have almost 100 hours on it and to be honest I wished I’d bought it sooner. I have 3 acres that I maintain plus I use it to help maintain the adjoining woods of my neighbors. This tractor does it all! I use it to mow, spread fertilizer/lime for the several neighbors with my ss1023b, drag/haul firewood, push snow, heck, I even used it to remove my old asphalt driveway! Now it’s not a D-6 or a JD 750 mind you, but it’s still remarkable for its size! And I’ve run heavy equipment for several years! It’s definitely a multitasker! No problems with it so far either. My John Deere Dealer ( Meade in Wytheville,Va) has also been very helpful with implement decisions and getting the best deals and if needed, financing. I always owned red but now I believe Green will be my favorite color!

John Deere Quality 2025R
I recently purchase a new 2025R and I absolutely love it. I purchased several addition implements To help manage my property such as a Brush Hog, Box Scrapper and my favorite a Backhoe. It works fantastic for digging out Arizona brush and buried rocks in the hard soil. The 2025R is a small tractor but it has passed every test that I have put it to. In addition it is very easy to operate. The only issue I have is I can’t get my wife off of it.
