The Hazelnut Boom in Oregon
Situated on the 45th parallel, the Willamette Valley is home to one of the world's largest producers of hazelnuts. Since 1905, when the first Barcelona trees were brought to the valley, the region has become renown for hazelnut propagation.
The hazelnut has a unique growing season - a cold pollinator, the process starts in January - then from September through November, hazelnut orchards are busy with upkeep and harvest.
Once the hazelnuts are harvested, assuming they avoid the Eastern Filbert Blight, they are sold and shipped in-shell. Nutella, oil, coffee, and candy are the most likely places these Oregon grown hazelnuts will end up.
Papé Machinery has partnered with harvesting equipment manufacturer, Monchiero, to support nut farmers throughout the West.
