When you purchase a compact tractor for property maintenance, you’ll
most likely need mowing or cutting attachments:
finish mowers and rotary cutters. Both options cut grass,
but are used in different conditions; and depending on your property, you may
need one or the other—or both.
A finish mower, or grooming mower, is designed to maintain lawns and areas with grass under eight inches. This attachment creates a smooth, manicured look in widths ranging from four feet to nine feet and cutting height from one to four inches. Papé Machinery carries over a dozen John Deere Frontier™ Equipment grooming mower models compatible with John Deere 1-4 series compact tractors when using an iMatch 3-point hitch.
Rotary cutter attachments are built to handle long grasses, thick brush, and weeds. Like the finish mower attachments, these are available from John Deere Frontier™ and are compatible with John Deere 1-4 series tractors equipped with an iMatch 3-point hitch in sizes ranging from four feet to 8 feet wide. Cutting height is adjustable between one to nine inches.
Finish Mower vs. Rotary Cutter
If you plan to cut grass regularly, a finish mower is your best bet. The blade speed creates a cleaner look and covers more acreage faster than a rotary cutter attachment. If you maintain wide stretches of untamed land, a rotary cutter is the better option. Rotary cutter attachments are designed to be extremely durable and can take down small trees with trunks up to one inch in diameter. While a rotary cutter won’t give you a clean finish, it will do the job of cutting down almost anything in its path.
Depending on your land, you may find you need both attachments to keep your property maintained. With the iMatch Quick-Hitch , it’s easy to swap out your mowing attachments as needed.
